Jami Masjid Akbar, or the Grand
Assembly Mosque as it is known, is renowned for its exquisite ornamentation
and lighting effects, highlighting the traditional engravings for which the
Surabaya is known, all offset by the modernistic design of the mosque's
structure.

Composite reveals the mosque's size,
and the crowd: nearly 80,000 attend Jumu`ah.

who passed away in the last 24 hours (salaat al-janazah al-ghaib).

After the sunan prayers are completed, the Shaykh led the gathered
assembly in a short session of Dhikr, followed by a long invocation for
God's Mercy and Benevolence on the Nation of the Prophet (s) and on all
humankind.
