Mawlana Shaykh spends the last minutes in Durban airport with Mawlana A.R. Soofie and other members of the Soofie family, then boards the plane.

Professor Nazeer Ahmed, Hajj Bahauddin Adil and Shurayh (Cape Town) smile for the camera. As we approach Johannesburg airport, the huge tailings from the gold mines on which the city was built are apparent in abundance.

Mawlana Shaykh deboards to the awaiting bus, from which the entire entourage was then taken by car to Pretoria, the home of Ahmad Arabee, a local businessman, where several hundred people greeted the Shaykh.

Mawlana Shaykh sat in the Arabee living room giving sohbat. This was followed by a meal, served to the hundreds of guests on the veranda, covered by a huge tent.



Mawlana Shaykh gave another talk to a local reporter, after which he was taken to a nearby home in Laudium (Muslim section of Pretoria).

Mawlana Shaykh again gave a brief talk, followed by "tea" (in fact a meal).



Mawlana Shaykh lead salat al-Maghrib in a local mosque. Following salat the Imam introduced the children of the madarasa which is run by the mosque, on its premises, and which is a full time school. The children had prepared a set of recitations of Quran and tasbih for greeting the Shaykh. They gathered around and chanted these in a warm welcome.


Following a sohbat by Mawlana Shaykh Nazim and then Dhikrullah, baya` was administered, followed by Salawat and Salaam.

	Here, after Salat al-Isha, Shaykh Nazim's sons Mohamed and Bahauddin, enjoy a quiet moment while their father gives sohbat to a large gathering in a Laudium home.

Hajji Ibrahim Patel, in his constant state of Dhikr, was always a reminder to the younger mureeds of self-effacement and muraqabat.	Even later that night, Mawlana gave private sohbat for the Arabee family.


After morning worship, followed by breakfast, the Shaykh and entourage prepared to leave Durban for Johannesburg and Pretoria. On the way out we passed the gorgeous crescent of the Durban beach, followed by the shameful and degrading shantytowns which line the highways for miles, giving lie to the impression of overall prosperity and happiness conveyed by the modern Durban skyline.
