Singapore: Day 1
Jewel of Creation Event

Mawlana Shaykh Hisham delivered a public lecture entitled "The Jewel of Creation" on Sunday 2 May 2010, 5 pm, at Singapore Expo Conference Hall. Event was organised by View Video1 and Video2 of this event. Shaykh Hisham began: O Brothers and Sisters! O sisters and brothers, whatever you like. I see more ladies than men! (laughter) But we are happy that (inaudible) is here, I am correct, Zaynul Abideen Rasheed (mayor of Singapore); now I am frightened to make a mistake, careful not to fall into mistakes or misunderstandings. I ask his permission from his honorable self to begin. I don't know, every time Mohammad Naseer comes with a nice event title. He said to speak about, "The Jewel of Creation.” It's a very important title that Allah (swt) likes for the Prophet (s), but can we explain that? Can we describe that jewel? The One to describe is the One who Created, not us normal people! But alhamdulillah, we are asking Allah (swt) to keep us on Islam. We are normal people, how can we describe someone who went on Isra' and Mir`aj? Such titles frighten me because I am nothing, may I be a pebble! ... Read the complete lecture here.

After a visit to Bandung's orphanage, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and his entourage were greeted on Friday by the Mayor of Bandung in Indonesia.  Bandung is a city that is famous for having achieved a zero criminality rate three years in a row.  The town is an ecological beauty with trees and vegetation harmoniously mixing with the city buildings. The Mayor greeted Mawlana with a visible joy and the entire city showed great adab by welcoming him with the highest honor.  After a touching welcome speech, the Mayor proceeded to show Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani the different rooms of the city hall and then sat down with him to discuss and share a cup of tea in the purest Naqshbandi tradition as Mawlana Shaykh Nazim use to say: "Tea is our Way". The Mayor then excused himself and went to change into a beautiful white ensemble for Jummah.  Then he asked Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani to lead the convoy of the delegation by foot and they both walked in the streets of Bandung in the direction of the Mosque. The police escorted them and one couldn't help but notice that the officers were not carrying any guns, a reminder of the city's crime-free environment.  This sight was particularly touching to some members of Mawlana's delegation who came from high-crime American cities such as New-York and Chicago. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and the Mayor arrived at the Mosque where they were greeted by 15,000 people eager to meet him.  He gave an uplifting khutba that drew the 15,000 attendees even closer to him.  At the end of the prayer they rushed to kiss his hand and he blessed them before heading back to the city hall where the Mayor invited him for lunch. The lunch event was attended by the Mayor's family and staff and Mawlana Shaykh Hisham prayed for all of them.  Everybody felt blessed to have the opportunity of spending some time with such a saint of the highest caliber.  But all good things must come to an end in this temporal life.  After a final du`a, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham gave his salaam and headed back to the house with his delegation to prepare for his trip to Jakarta.

Indonesia: Day 6
Visit To Semarang May 16 2010

On this day, after visiting Demak, the City of Saints, we return to Samarang, the city were we landed from Jakarta the day before on our way to Jepara. In Samarang, we were hosted in a luxury facility, the Santika hotel. At night, Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani gave an extraordinary speech in a conference room of the hotel. The room was full and among the audience were present many Ulama. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani took that opportunity to explain in details the roles of the Naqshbandi Shuyukh in the history of Islam in Indonesia and totally challenge those scholars in Indonesia who slandered the Naqshbandis. His speech was directed primarily to the scholars present and listening or watching through the Internet than to the common folk. He especially singled-out Hizbu-t-tahreer. There was a total silence in the room as if to demonstrate the gravity of the matter. And at each mention of the name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw), Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani stood up and the crowd followed him in showing the utmost reverence to our beloved Prophet (s); the scholars present did follow Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani in that display of love to Allah's (swt) Beloved one (saw), even though they were not used to doing that, but they could not deny or object to that sign of respect. After a 40-minute speech, not a single question was raised. Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani as if to ease the atmosphere, requested Shaykh Habib Abdal-Qadir Assaggaf assembly take over with a series of Qasidah no one could resist enjoying; indeed Shaykh Habib Assaggaf and his group have mastered the use of musical instruments in an Islamic way: the daffs. The `Ulama present, could not resist appreciating this wonderful melody of love, and all of them were moving their heads right to left at the praise of the Holy Prophet (saw). This was follow by Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani's trademark: giving sweet to the audience. He gave candies to the crowd and the scholars present also joyfully raised their hands to get some for baraka. The night did not finish there. In another room few feet from there, a concert of whirling dervishes was waiting for Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani. It was incredibly moving. The violins, the drums, the flute, with a reciter tremulously reciting Arabic poetry to the point that those who speak Arabic were amazed that she had no Arabic background. The scholars who attended Mawlana Shaykh Hisham Kabbani speech followed Shaykh Hisham to the concert and they listened and watched the sama and the whirling dervishes. This is the power Allah (swt) has granted to His awliya. They fight what is wrong and uplift what is true and just so is the name of the master of this Tariqah: Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al-Haqqani. The following morning, Monday 17, after breakfast we head to Samarang airport. A holy person or saint is like a magnet. Whenever and wherever he make or put a step, people feel attracted to him and we saw that throughout the trip. At Samarang airport people were coming to him for prayers and du’as. On the tarmac, airport workers did not resist coming to him. Even on board, as the aircraft was about to take off, you could see through the windows airport employees lining up and waving at the aircraft. 45 minutes later, we were landing in Jakarta.
Indonesia: Day 7
Visit to a Mosque

Indonesia: Day 8
Jumu`ah, Visit to Mr & Mrs. Firdaus Home , Rumi Cafe

Saalat al-Jumu`ah

On Friday 21th, we headed to Condet, Jakarta Timur (East Jakarta) for Jumah prayer in al-Hawi Mosque. We arrived to a packed mosque, where Shaykh Habib Abu Bakar the leader was waiting to greet Mawlana Shaykh Hisham. A sea of worshippers filled the mosque from all around the area. Shaykh Hisham gave the khutbah in Arabic and it was translated later into Bahasa, the Indonesian language. After the prayer, we struggled very hard to move Shaykh Hisham through the crowd out from the mosque. Shaykh Hisham ended up in a different minivan than the one assigned to him because that was the only way to take him away from the crowd. Then something very strange happened. A man walked to the minivan and begged Shaykh Hisham to lower the window on his side. The man explained that right across the street were a maqam of many shaykhs and he asked for Mawlana to come and pray at their graves. Sitting near Mawlana in the minivan, I was wondering and saying to myself about that person: “He must be kidding! Does not he see this huge crowd?" But the man insisted and Mawlana looked at him as if that man was a messenger from those deceased shaykhs. He stepped out of the car and again we were struggling to move Mawlana through the crowd that had grown even bigger around the minivan. To reach the maqam just going across the street took us almost twenty minutes. It was a big house, well kept in which are buried a dozen of shuyukh. Mawlana made a long du`a there to the satisfaction of that person and everybody present as we could heard ameen, amean, ameen and people sobbing. From my heart, I believe that person was sent to Mawlana so the deceased shuyukh could benefit from his baraka.

From the Jumah prayer, we headed to Mr. and Mrs. Firdaus’ house. Many of us in the US has a flash back about “The Namira Ladies” at the 1998 International Unity Conference in Washington DC. That was the first time we heard that group of sisters reciting Qasidah. The Firdaus' prepared a very loving welcome to Mawlana and his entourage to a full house of mureeds and visitors. The huge crowd of “Namiras” was very happy. I was expecting them to recite Qasidas but I was not lucky that day. Ms. Firdaus held ladies dhikr in her house and Mawlana was very happy with the progress she made with the many sisters she has been able to bring together. He also praised her husband for his kindness by having opened the house for ladies dhikr. He gave a speech about the importance of being patient at the end of which he presented Dr. Jibril Haddad to the audience as the one whom, by order of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani, is prepared to uplift and to teach Shari`a, hadith, fiqh and tafseer and to debate anyone on a scholarly level. Shaykh Hisham encouraged the sisters to refer any questions they may have for their Islamic education. That lovely atmosphere leads us to a nice lunch where dishes from many parts of the world were served.

From the Firdaus’ hom we head to downtown Jakarta to visit the “Rumi Shop”, a shop own by Naqshbandis where dhikr is held. It is called in local language “Rumah Asih”. It is a three floors building where the second floor is for dhikr. Shaykh Hisham and his wife were offered seats on the main floors to the delight of mureeds. Joy and smiles were on everyone's faces. It was a dream come true to have Shaykh Hisham and his family (wife and daughter) along with many mureeds from around the world step into their shop. It is important to remind us that “Rumah Asih” played a big role in the conference organized for Shaykh Hisham in the Al-Azhar University on Monday 17th of May 2010 in Jakarta. It is in this building Dr. Jibril Haddad will set up his first office in Indonesia. Shaykh Hisham was offered a traditional hat that he put on. Shaykh Hisham sent Dr. Jibril to visit the zawiya and we went with him upstairs to visit the dhikr place. It was very well decorated with nice carpets and Mawlana Shaykh Nazim's picture on display. Mureeds were sitting as ready for dhikr. They gave salaams to Dr. Jibril and pictures were taken. Afer about 45 minutes, Shaykh Hisham left to prepare his traveling back to the USA.
Indonesia: Day 9
Fruit Garden and Marriage May 18, 2010
After Fajr prayer (dawn) Shaykh Hisham Kabbani sent Dr. Gabriel Haddad on a three-hour drive from Jakarta to visit the village of Cikereteg, Sukabumi. There Dr. Haddad was directed to visit the school and a Naqshbandi zawiya there, established by Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, which currently hosts 2,500 students with room and board, giving them fulltime studies in both the Islamic sciences and secular studies, from the age of 5 up to 18. Dr. Gabriel was accompanied by the brother Nabil (a mureed came from Lebanon). The remaining mureeds accompanined Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and his family for a visit two-hours drive from Jakarta to a place called the "Fruit Garden," a large garden with fruit trees of all kinds covering an area of several hectares. It's a masterpiece, a haven, ideal for family picnics. The whole area is beautifully enhanced by a vast lake where one can "walk over water." We arrived, and here a welcoming crowd of mureeds greeted Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and his family and his entourage with melodious qasidas and bouquets of roses presented to Mawlana and his wife. We were greeted by a bank manager who is also a student of the tariqah. The location of the ceremony was on the other side of the shore, and to access it one must go through a portion of the lake over a suspension bridge designated for pedestrians only. This journey is an ordeal for anyone with fear of heights because as you cross the suspension bridge it sways and bounces. Thank God no one had the jitters, so it became a moment of laughter enjoyment while some made fun of others who were a bit fearful to take the "walk". The ceremony begins with a recitation of qasidas by a group of young girls from Jakarta. Elegantly dressed in their uniforms, as is the case in Indonesia for all school students, they demonstrated expertise in Arabic recitation and in drumming. They were followed by another group and another. Finally the visit ended with a lovely marriage ceremony of a couple which was celebrated in the park, and then lunch was served. After the final du`a, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani and his entourage took the road back to Jakarta.
