His Father's Name: Amurath the third
His Mother's Name:Khandan Sultana
Date of Birth: 1592
Date of Death: January 20th, 1639
His Reign: 1617-23 ( 5 years)

Sultan Mustapha the First was handsome, of pale complexion and with large eyes.

--------------------------------------------

He was enthroned twice, both periods lasting for only a short time. When Sultan Ahmed died Mustapha was enthroned despite the fact that he was mentally unbalanced. Why he was made Sultan instead of Osman Khan is not yet known but after three months he was dethroned on a point of Islamic law by the Grand Mufti of the time. Sultan Osman Khan, called Osman the Young, was raised in his place.

In 1622, following the assasination of Osman at Yedikoule, Mustapha was returned to power, even though he was still mentally unbalanced.

The Spahee of Kapikoulou rose in rebellion and Davoud Pash, the murderer of Osman, was executed.

On January 8th, 1623 the higher officials of the Ottoman Empire gathered and decided that Mustapha was not fit enough to carry on his sultanate. Consequently, he was dethroned and Amurath the Fourth raised in his place. Es'ad Effendi, the Grand Mufti at the time, stated in his fatwa that nobody who was mentally unbaIanced could ever execute the duties of Sultan.

Sultan Mustapha Khan died 16 years after he was dethroned, being 47 years old. He was interred in the yard of St. Sophia Mosque. He had no children.
